In this program, students visit different parts of Winnipeg to learn about its past and present. Looks at Lower Fort Garry and the fur trade, Louis Riel and the Red River Rebellion, the lives and customs of the early settlers, and the establishment of Manitoba as a province in 1870. Considers the importance of agriculture to our province, Winnipeg's rapid economic and cultural growth in the 19th and 20th centuries, the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919, and the need for and creation of heritage housing sites. Also exmaines the flood of 1950, St. Andrew's Lock and Dam, and how and why the Winnipeg Floodway came to be built. Lastly, the program looks at the French-speaking community of St. Boniface and the multicultural nature of Winnipeg. DVD features include chapter segments. | ||
