Series designed to show the importance of books and reading to the learning of social and scientific concepts. This program examines the behavior and characteristics of bats and explores the world of slumber and dreams. In the feature story, after falling headfirst into a bird’s nest, a baby bat is raised like a bird until she is reunited with her mother. Viewers meet a bat expert who takes them to a large cave where thousands of bats make their home. Students also learn about the stages of sleep and dreams as they observe a young girl participating in a sleep study. Students mention three books of interest to them : Amazing bats / by Fran Greenway ; Step into the night / by Joanne Ryder and Sleep is for everyone / by Paul Showers. DVD program features include chapter segments, captioning and English subtitles.
