Series designed to introduce students to the history of ancient civilizations and to the ways they influence our lives today. In this program, archaeologist, Arizona Smith, examines the social life, customs and traditions of the Mayan culture and considers theories which explain its disappearance in the 16th century. Discusses the role of the king in Mayan culture and this civilization's contributions to the fields of art, architecture, astronomy and agriculture. Also looks at Mayan athletics, the lives Mayan children, and the ways in which an understanding of the Maya of the present can offer clues to the behaviour and habits of the Maya of the past. DVD features include : chapter select, closed-captioning, discussion questions and activities and English and Spanish language tracks.
