520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Series designed to introduce students to the history of ancient civilizations and to the ways they influence our lives today. In this program, archaeologist, Arizona Smith examines Mesopotamia the birth place of civilization, located between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in what is today Iraq and southern Syria. Shows how archaeological expeditions to Mesopotamia in the 19th and early 20th centuries led to the discovery of the earlier civilizations of Sumer, Assyria and Babylonia. Explains that the Sumerians were the first peoples to irrigate the region, form a government, to develop a written language and to create mathematics and the wheel. The Assyrians, a warlike people were master builders of stone monuments and artists who ruled Mesopotamia from 2000-605 BC. The Babylonians were brought to power under King Nebuchaenezzar and ruled until they were conquered by the Persians in 539 BC. DVD features include: English and Spanish language tracks; discussion activities and questions; and chapter select.
